Welcome to Newbury
Newbury includes the villages of Old Town (Newbury Center), Plum Island and Byfield.
Buying a home in Newbury offers the best of both worlds – peaceful surroundings and proximity to local shops and events in the bustling town of Newburyport.
Tendercrop Farm. Take a walk out on the grounds to pick fresh flowers in the summer, by the petting zoo, around the first-floor market, and up on the amazing second-floor gift shop. If you have kids, it's a great place to visit. The animals are super friendly and will come right over to the fence to say hello. Fresh-picked produce, fresh-baked breads, pastries and grass-fed meats are just a few of the staples you will find at the farm. Tendercrop also has potted plants and herbs for sale, as well as pumpkins and seasonal décor for inside and outside your new home!
The Right to Farm. Farming is a way of life for many residents of Newbury. The wide pastures and farmlands provide a peaceful backdrop for a town that's just next door to the city of Newburyport and the beautiful beaches of Plum Island.
Plum Island. Plum Island is just a 10-minute drive down the Plum Island Turnpike past Mass Audubon's Joppa Flats Education Center. This 11-mile long island off the shore of Newburyport offers gorgeous sandy beaches ideal for such leisurely pursuits as swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. On the island, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is home to more than 800 species of birds, plants and animals. Additionally, at the southern tip of Plum Island is Sandy Point State Reservation, a 77-acre park that is perfect for walking, beachcombing, fishing and birding.
